For most vehicles we can work out the key cut, make a new key, program it to the immobilizer and leave you with a working key, right where the car is parked.
What to do when you have lost your car key
First, retrace your steps and check with the places you visited. Then find the year, make, model and VIN (they are on the registration and the insurance card), and gather your ID and proof of ownership. Call us with those details and we will tell you what is possible for your car before anyone drives out.
How we make a key with no original
The key cut can be read from the car’s locks or looked up from the vehicle information. Once the blade is cut, the new chip or smart key is programmed to the car with diagnostic equipment.
On many vehicles, lost keys can also be removed from the car’s memory so they no longer start it. Ask us whether your car supports this.
Get a spare while we are there
If you have just lost your only key, the next loss is just as disruptive. Making a second key during the same visit is simpler than coming back later, and we recommend it.
When the dealer is the only option
A small number of newer vehicles require dealer-only access for key programming when every key is lost. We tell you on the phone if your car is one of them.
What affects the job
With no key to copy, the work depends on the car's security system, the type of key and whether that model can be programmed on site at all. We check that on the phone before anyone drives out. See what affects the cost, and check the neighborhoods we cover across Bellevue.
Questions about all keys lost
Can you erase my lost keys from the car?
On many vehicles, yes. Removing lost keys from the car’s memory means they will no longer start it, even if someone finds them. Ask us whether your car supports it.
Do I need to tow the car to you?
No. We come to the car, whether it is at home, at work, on the street or in a parking garage.
Does car insurance cover lost car keys?
Some policies and roadside plans include key replacement, many do not. Check with your insurer or roadside provider.
How much does it cost to replace lost car keys?
It depends on the vehicle and the type of key. Call with your year, make and model and we will give you a quote for your car.
