We drive to wherever the car is in Bellevue, cut a new key to match your locks, program the chip so the engine will start, and test everything with you before we leave.
Which car keys we replace
Most cars built since the late 1990s use a transponder key: a metal blade with a small chip in the head that talks to the car’s immobilizer. Without the right programming, a copied blade may open the doors but will not start the engine.
We replace standard edge-cut keys, high-security (laser-cut) keys, transponder keys and remote-head keys that combine the blade and the buttons. Remotes and push-to-start smart keys are covered on our key fob page.
Can a locksmith make a car key from the VIN?
For many vehicles, the vehicle identification number can be used to look up the key cut through authorized sources, which helps when no working key is left. Not every make offers this, and the chip still has to be programmed to the car on site. Either way, we only make keys for the verified owner, so have your ID and registration or title ready.
Mobile locksmith or dealer?
A dealer normally needs the car on site, which often means towing it, and may need to order the key and book a service appointment. We bring key blanks and programming tools to the car, so in most cases the job is finished in one visit, in your driveway, office lot or parking garage.
Not every vehicle can be done on site. Some newer models need dealer-only access. We check your year, make and model on the phone first, so you know before anyone drives out.
Makes we work on
We make and program keys for most domestic, Asian and European makes, including Toyota, Honda, Subaru, Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Mazda, Volkswagen, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Acura, Infiniti and Volvo.
Key systems change from one model year to the next, especially on European cars, so the exact year and model matter more than the brand. Tell us both and we will confirm what is possible for your car before we drive out.
What affects the job
The key type and the model year decide most of the work. A basic transponder key is a shorter job than a laser-cut key or a smart key, and having a working key to copy makes it simpler again. See what affects the cost, and check the neighborhoods we cover across Bellevue.
Questions about car key replacement
Can you replace my key without the original?
For most vehicles, yes. If no working key is left, see our all keys lost service. We can usually create a new key from scratch and program it on site.
Will a key cut at a hardware store start my car?
Usually not. A copied blade may turn the lock, but if your car uses a transponder chip the engine will not start until a matching chip is programmed to the car.
Can AutoZone or a kiosk replace my car key?
Some stores and kiosks can copy basic keys and certain chip keys when you bring a working key. A key made with no original, a high-security key or a smart key usually needs a locksmith or the dealer.
How much does a replacement car key cost?
It depends on the vehicle, the type of key and whether you still have a working key. Call or send a request with your year, make and model and we will quote your car specifically.
